I am a requesting a registration fee waiver for the conference for two reasons:

1. The arts are integral to both the quality of life and economic health of the community, and should be at the table.

2. The Carnegie has laid off 1/3 of its staff and cut its programs to stay a float this year. Financial help is grealty appreciated!

Why isn't there any representation of art and culture in the discussion? It's a missed opportunity. There is plenty of research and working models that show the positive impact of arts and culture in community building and economic development...not to mention the fundamental intrinsic values of experiencing arts. If we are trying to think creatively and approach issues with new eyes...artists should be an obvious resource. Otherwise I respect the effort. This community has an incredible heritage of ideas, innovation and creative thinking. It's about time we started acting like our old selves!

Open Space Technology or Appreciative Inquiry with David Cooperrider from Weatherhead Case Western would be useful to cover in the programming. Dr Cooperrider is the originator of this wonderful process used around the world to create change, and he lives in the Great Lakes Region. Appreciative Inquiry has been successfully used in India, Nepal and Africa to create new economic development at the grassroots level and community organizing to transform distressed communities. Photovoice is also a powerful process to teach as a tool for data gathering and discovery for policy making. Photovoice has been used successfully in Flint MI and other communities.
