Steve Banko is the Field Office Director in the Buffalo office of the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He came to HUD in 1998 after more than 20 years in state and local government, including six years as Director of Communications for Mayor Tony Masiello.
He is a Senior Fellow at the Council for Excellence in Government in Washington DC and was selected as the Council’s inaugural “Senior Fellow of the Year” in 1994.
An accomplished speaker and award winning writer, Steve has also served as Manager of Communications for the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority and Deputy Director of Editorial Services in the New York State Assembly. He is a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War and the author of a booklet and narrator of an audio tape of essays and speeches titled Memories of War, Dreams of Peace: Echoes of the Vietnam War. His work has been recorded for national broadcast on National Public Radio and has been published by Marlo Thomas in an anthology titled Right Words at the Right Time, Vol. II.
Mr. Banko also teaches the HUD grant writing course around the country and has taught sessions in 22 cities over the last five years.
